EME Weekend in June PDF Print E-mail

Saturday June 12th we had another day of EME activity at the Dwingeloo telescope. Although the position of the sun was pretty near that of the moon, we did try to do EME. The DT’s beam is that sharp that on 23 cm this shouldn’t present any problems. On 70 cm we expected to hear some more noise. This turned out to be exactly right!

And since EME-people know that with the sun being so near the moon, possibilities would be few, as expected activity was low. Yet we had a handful of contacts. Bruce, PY2BS sent us some splendid pictures with SSTV. Never have we seen them that good!

Moreover there was this visit by the Groningen  VERON/VRZA section. A nice group, who during this visit witnessed the DT in action.

We also had visitors from Germany, the “world-famous” EME-couple Michael and Monika. They had only just returned from a successful EME expedition to Kaliningrad.

Two more expedition-travellers (René, PE1L and Johan, PE9DX) freshly returned from Mauritius, now found themselves back in the DT as operators. Eene, together with Cor, used his time well, taking our CAMRAS noise-meter  well in hand. At the end of the day it was in perfect working order once more.

Furthermore Jan, PE2JMR, Theo, PA3DSS and Fred Tak were among those present. Fred happily showed the Groningen-folk around, taking them up in the DT, which was highly appreciated.

Pieter-Tjerk and Paul, intending some kind of moon-radar investigation, used the final minutes of moon-availability for sending along some more “strange sounds” to the moon. This allows for  some more improvement, but already yields interesting results.

The weather was wonderful and brought along lots of tourists, giving rise to a good many spontaneous tales across the fence.

In short: we had a great day with various activities and lots of enthousiastic people!
