This acronym is derived from ‘C.A. Muller Radio Astronomy Station’ and refers directly to Professor C.A. (Lex) Muller, who, as the technical right hand of Professor Oort, placed the Netherlands on the scientific map of the world of Radioastronomy. It may be said that the proper functioning of the Dwingeloo radio-telescope has been his main work in life. A large part of his scientific career is associated with this Radio-telescope. Professor Muller was, just as many radio-astronomers, a enthusiastic radio amateur (call: PA0CAM) and used this radio-telescope on occasion to participate in radio contests.

CAMRAS has set the following goals for itself:

  • Making available the Dwingeloo Radio-telescope to the community of amateur astronomers and radio amateurs.
  • The stimulation of interest of the youth for science and technology by offering educational organizations the possibility to use the radio-telescope.
  • The conservation of the Dwingeloo Radio-telescope as scientific industrial monument.
