May the First - 06.30 a.m. Alarm just went off and we are busy getting the girls dressed. A quick breakfast, followed by loading the car. Up to Beilen first to take the little ladies to Granny and Gramps for a brief stay and off to the telescope.
On arrival we turned out to be the first (logical – the others didn’t need to be so early). Unload the car and on to Ruinerwold to get the benches and tables we could loan from a Scouting group.
And that’s when you find out that these objects are just a bit longer than your car’s loading area (even when it is a station-car). But we succeeded in sticking and bundling all the stuff tight together and short-cuts along by-lanes took us to the “Grand Lady”. Oh, isn’t Drenthe beautiful when you take the by-ways!
Back at the telescope we found Frans busy putting up the tents. The rain being heavy at the time, however, we could not go on with the job, so we just went inside (the telescope) to have a look at the gentlemen doing their measurements. |

The weather-forecasters had forecast a rainy Saturday. This was bad news, indeed, because for May the First our program showed antenna measurements in Meppel, for my 23 cm antennas, as part of future contacts with Dwingeloo by way of the moon, followed by a visit to CAMRAS where the handing over of new PR material was to take place. At the end of which Team Hermelink had organised a geo-chaching Event. Moreover we expected a great number of EME enthousiasts from home and abroad. Yours faithfully, Wim de Vries – PaoME and Timo Lampe – PE1FOD, carpooled north. Between Huis ter Heide and Meppel we hit on barrelsful of rain, which kept on and on and on, consequently not promising much that was good for the day. |
